Learn the language. But keep it basic.

I am lucky. At least, that's what I realise now.

As a child I hated sitting next to daddy watching ZDF or ARTE because of their valuable history programs. In German. For one reason or the other, daddy always loved German. I didn't.

But today I am lucky. Because there is a button in my head I just needed to switch on. And there it came. The German language.

First, I was suprised about how easy it is to understand the language. Then, I realised that after some beer -or wine, I stick to my roots- also speaking is not such a problem anymore. I can make full phrases in German. Waaw.

But I decided not to be too quick. There are still things I better don't understand. And there are still occasions where I better don't speak the language. I am Selective German Speaking.

And you know what I discovered? Germans looove it. You try, but not too hard. So, there is this little accent that sticks around. How sweet is that? And she doesn't understand everything.

As you can imagine, it is mainly the German man who gets impressed. If I can repeat it? One more time?

So, dear women-friends, listen to me.
Learn the language. But keep it basic.
